Board of Directors Officer Biographies

Michele Bo - President

Michele Bo

Michele Bo has been on the Board of Friends of San Jose Family Camp since 2019 when she volunteered to be the Secretary at one of the Board Meetings that was held at Leininger Center.
She has been the "Acting" secretary since 2019.  She helped organize the work parties and sent out endless surveys and invitations to those work parties.
During the past 4 years she has spent her volunteer time up at camp for the three major work parties each year and then during the Summers volunteering in the kitchen. Then at night reading her many mysteries that she brings to read along the river during the day or at night in the cabin.
She enjoys the peaceful, quiet sounds of Family Camp especially during the off-season work parties.  It is cold but it is beautiful.  It is a great way to enjoy the richness of the camp and the fruits of our labor when our projects are completed.  What makes it more enjoyable is the wonderful friends that join her during the work parties and of course the scrumptious food that the cook up at camp always provides.  She has enjoyed being part of a growing and strong organization that has a fantastic future.
In her spare time, she takes care of her 2 senior loving pups, Nala & Lily. (15 & 10)  Plays pickleball when the weather permits and enjoys her pilates classes.

Tyler Barkwill - Vice President

Tyler Barkwill

Tyler had his first experience at Family Camp at the ripe age of two. His parents brought him up to camp for his first summer experience. His father was an active volunteer with Friends during the 1980s and early 1990s. Tyler helped initially on the "Animal Crew" but eventually grew to become well versed in electrical and several other trade skills. You'll typically find him up on a ladder working on the electrical poles or tuning the PA system.

Outside of Friends and Family Camp, Tyler works in Hollywood as a manager for an entertainment industry supplier. On the weekends he will typically spend time on a boat at the lake or taking his truck off-road for some rock crawling. He has also spent endless hours remodeling and updating every portion of his home room by room.

Suzanne Khan - Treasurer

Suzanne Khan

Born and raised in San Jose, Suzanne (Peeler) Khan was part of the first group of happy campers at San Jose Family camp in 1974. Vacations, work weekends and fish camps turned into lifelong memories, imparted a lasting love of the western Sierras, and left permanent imprints of Wadiliacha lyrics and the route to Rainbow Pool.

While not in the meadow or playing ping pong, Suzanne earned a bachelor’s degree in business at SJSU and worked for the City of San Jose in the Police Department’s Research and Development unit. For 30+ years, she has led technology teams, programs and projects that drive tech company growth in operations, finance and culture.  She is a mentor, ally, and innovation-minded collaborator.

Secretary - Margo Gorini

Margo Gorini

Margo (Joesten) Gorini’s first encounter with San Jose Family Camp was in 1974 working as a retail clerk in the privately operated camp store (the space now occupied by the camp office) where I developed a love for the beauty and wonder that is found in the Sierra Nevada. In 1991, my family of four and my brother’s family of four, began its yearly camping reunion at San Jose Family Camp. Our first adventures were captured on a News Channel 11 broadcast that first year, with memories of a hayride and BBQ. During the next 15 years, as our families grew, my sisters and their families joined us, where all 21 family members enjoyed the pool, river, Fort Tuolumne, crafts, hikes, and dining hall food. Many wonderful and fun-filled memories were made including trips to Yosemite and the cities and towns near San Jose Family Camp. Margo joined her sisters, Michele and Stephanie, and became active members of the Friends of San Jose Family Camp in 2020. Margo works part-time in education during the week and spends her weekends beachcombing and relaxing in Aptos, CA. Margo’s hobbies include dancing hula, watercolor painting, playing the ukulele, completing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, hiking, reading romance and mystery novels, and playing with her cat, Nina.
