The Friends of San Jose Family Camp is a volunteer organization dedicated to providing and preserving a quality, family oriented Sierra camping experience.
WHO WE ARE
Friends of San Jose Family Camp is a volunteer organization dedicated to maintaining Family Camp for the enjoyment of all campers.
The Friends are made up of campers with a love for the camp. These volunteers perform a variety of activities to ensure the ongoing success of camp. They support the City of San Jose by performing major and minor repairs, raising funds for camp programs and equipment, and by promoting camp through their Speakers’ Bureau.
From the City of San Jose Bio:
Friends of Family Camp was established in 1973, as a volunteer organization dedicated to maintaining Family Camp for the enjoyment of all campers. They have been conducting periodic work parties at Camp since their inception and continue to the present day to support site maintenance and fundraising activities. The Friends continue to provide volunteer services including individual platform-tent frame repairs, deck repairs, electrical work, weed abatement, restroom/kitchen cleaning, painting and major or minor building repairs, electrical and plumbing repairs, and working at camp during rental season. This group has grown to include contacts and members of around 650 individuals and/or families, who still enjoy the Sierra camping experience provided by Camp. The Board of Directors for the Friends of San José Family Camp meets monthly with PRNS staff to discuss both operational needs and physical improvements to the Camp. It has been the Friends who have provided weekend oversight of Family Camp during the 2010/11 camp closure, extra eyes and ears any time City resources run thin, and outside professional advice and expertise. The City anticipates working with the Friends of Family Camp in the future regarding camp services, interpretive programs camp repairs, renovations and enhancements, along with fundraising efforts to support such work.
